Reformation Sermons

In between our sermons on Exodus (which we just finished) and our sermons on a NT epistle (TBD), we're taking a few weeks to reflect on the great truths of the Reformation, truths that "shook the world" as J. M. Boice wrote so well.  Pastor Lems suggests reading R.C. Sproul (Grace Unknown), James Montgomery Boice (Whatever Happened to the Gospel of Grace), Mike Horton (Putting Amazing Back Into Grace), and David Wells (The Courage to be Protestant) for further reading.  He will be referring to these books from time to time in these Reformation sermons.

Ephesians 1.3-14 Election and Atonement (Sermon III of Ref. Reflections).wav

     (15.7M)
Preached Nov 15, 2009. In this sermon (Part III), we learned from St. Paul about God's plan of saving sinners - a plan which finds its origin before the foundation of the world. We learned about God's sovereignty in election and Christ's atonement, which definitely accomplished salvation for the elect. This is all wrapped up in the cry, "Grace Alone!"

Romans 3.19-28 Faith Alone and Kept in It (Sermon IV of Ref Reflections).wav

     (15.5M)
Preached Nov 22. In this sermon, we looked at Paul's discussion of faith in Romans 3.19-28 - the truth of justification by faith alone. Also, we noticed how God's grace, justification, and plan means that the Christian's salvation is secure forever. In other words, we covered "Sola Fide" and the P of TULIP, Preservation of the saints.
